Your coffee table is always the center of attention in your living room, so why not make it beautiful?

I recently went to HomeGoods looking for a coffee table and was lucky enough to find this mirrored piece. It was love at first sight! It is beautiful and got me instantly excited to bring it into my home. But first I had to get thinking on how to style a coffee table.

There are so many things you can do with your coffee table, but it can sometimes feel like an overwhelming and difficult project if you don’t know were to start. Today I want to walk you through some ideas on how to style your coffee table that will hopefully inspire your imagination.

From a logistical standpoint, I recommend beginning by visualizing your table as two divided sections with deliberate room left on all sides. I suggest this because everyone likes to put their feet up while watching TV and lounging on the couch. This organization will create room for people to do so, thus keeping you from having to constantly move all your tabletop accessories.

I almost always use trays on my center tables, for both organizational and aesthetic reasons. They come in handy when you want to keep things tidy, like your remotes and TV guides, and you won’t ever have to scramble around looking for them when you go to sit and unwind. You could also try storing these items (and more!) in a small wicker basket underneath your table if you have the space or a multi-tiered piece.

Trays are also helpful when you need to clear the whole table for whatever reason. For example, my husband likes to have appetizers and snacks on the table when we watch movies over the weekend. Keeping everything on trays makes clean-up so much easier when we’re done!

There are other organizational accents you can put on your coffee table if you decide you don’t want a tray, such as this apothecary jar from HomeGoods. I chose to fill it with fun cookies so that there is always a snack on hand. If you plan to use your coffee table to entertain, don’t forget the coasters! They are very important to stop you from ending up with surprise stains or watermarks on your table.

When it comes to accenting your table, a floral arrangement, even if made with faux flowers, will always be a beautiful way to decorate. I find that when you have flowers on a table you won’t need to add much else, as they instantly draw the eye and act as a centerpiece. When I do add other pieces I like to go with colored or tapered candles to give the table a romantic finish.

Potted plants are a great alternative if you don’t want to put out flowers (which can dry out quickly) but still want something natural on your table. Adding a plant will bring life to your table and look great!

Another accessory to add that grabs people’s attention without being too overwhelming is a fun sculpture, like this gold rabbit from HomeGoods. For this tablescape I chose a color that drew in the eye just enough and helped to tie together the whole room. Here you can see how it draws out the gold-trimmed pages of my coffee table books, as well as my gold-framed mirror.

Another one of my favorite things to keep on my coffee table is a selection of books. It’s a great way to provide entertainment, decorate the table, and even bring out a color palette you are using in your room. Best of all, this doesn’t necessarily require any purchasing. Try looking through the books you already have at home and I’m sure you’ll find something interesting for your table.

Want something simple yet elegant to liven up your coffee table? Try adding something pretty and elevated, like these lanterns from HomeGoods. Like I said, there are endless options when it comes to styling these types of tables, you just need to be creative and stay true to your tastes!

The most important rule when it comes to styling your coffee table is to have some fun! I hope some of the above examples has helped you think of a way to decorate your table that will be true to your aesthetic and personality. At the end of the day your home is an extension of yourself, and should reflect who you are and what you love.
